Cynthia Sargent Hooked "Bartok" Shag Rug
Item Details
A vintage Bartok Modernist hooked rug by Cynthia Sargent. Sargent, an artist trained in art and design, moved from New York City to Mexico City in 1951, founding with her husband a weekly crafts bazaar and market called Bazar Sabado in San Angel, and also founding a manufactory where they made a variety of textiles and hooked rugs. This bright, mid-century rug features an abstract pattern of stars, leaf forms, and arches in saturated reds, oranges, ochre, moss green and taupe. It has bound seams to the underside. The initials ‘CS’ are inscribed in the lower left corner; otherwise, the rug is unlabeled.
