Oil Paintings of Pastoral Scenes Including J. Winkler Scenes of Sathmar

A selection of three oil paintings on canvas. Included is a painting of a shepherd seated amidst his flock of sheep as they graze in a field. The sky above them is vast and filled with fluffy white clouds. It is signed illegibly to the lower right corner and presented in a cream-colored frame that is wired for hanging. The remaining two paintings are both of the Sathmar Swabian people in Romania. The larger of the two depicts the Romanian town of Cămin (German Kalmandi) from across a small lake with smooth, reflective water. A woman and her dog walk by on a dirt road and white ducks graze nearby. To the verso, an inscription describes the peaceful nature of the town and how the lake is a paradise for children and animals. It is presented in a silver tone frame with linen liner. The second of these paintings depicts the scene closer to town, looking over a farm where two men are guiding a horse with a hoe. To the verso is affixed a photograph of a flower and an inscription about how the town used to be flourishing and the barns full, but things have taken a turn for the worse. Nevertheless, it is good to look back on the good times. This piece is presented in a gold tone frame with a linen liner and floriate detailing. Both inscriptions appear to be written in Swabian German. These two pieces are both signed by Winkler to the lower right corner and include hanging hardware.
