A Persian Sarouk area rug. This semi-curvilinear wool rug is hand-knotted in an abrashed palette of burgundy, dark sapphire, cream, pink, and brown. It begins with a sapphire-grounded floral medallion enclosed in a cream-grounded larger medallion, the larger medallion featuring palmette pendants at four sides. The center medallions rest on a burgundy-colored field, which is populated with symmetrically arranged palmettes, flowers, vines, and leaves. Framing the field are three borders. These include a main border grounded in cream, featuring a pattern of meandering flowers and palmettes. Minor borders feature meanding florals over deep midnight blue, and a stylized turtle outer guard border over black. The rug has blue weft threads and overcast selvedges. Top and bottom finish with short undyed wool warp fringe. It is labeled on the reverse.
