A handcrafted Tapete de Arraiolos needlepoint accent rug, thought to be from the Portuguese rug weaving area of the Évora District in the south central region of Portugal. The rug features a lattice pattern of floral bouquets in a palette of deep blue, light blue, and bright yellow on a cream field. Each bouquet is separated by a diamond pattern enclosure and the field is enclosed by a compound border having a wave pattern in blue. It has bound seams to the underside and is tagged to the back ‘Tapete de Arraiolos’. Rugs have been made in this fashion in this region since the Middle Ages.
