A limited edition color photograph of a nest, titled Pine Siskin, by Bay Area photographer Sharon Beals. This photograph, shot against a black background, depicts a nest partially-obscured by dried orange and yellow leaves, three small white eggs visible inside it. This piece is titled, signed, dated ‘07/09’ and numbered ‘#4/50’ in pencil to the lower margin, along with the note ‘Humboldt County, 1924,’ indicating where the nest, which is part of a research collection, was originally gathered. The work is part of a series shot for Beals’ book Nests: Fifty Nests and the Birds that Built Them, published in 2011 by Chronicle Books, and is presented unframed behind protective plastic.
