A hand-colored engraving on laid paper after German copper engraver Jacob Xaver Schmuzer (1713-1775). This illustrated page was printed in Friederich Justic Bertuch’s Bilderbuch für Kinder in the 19th century, after the death of the artist. This page depicts figures of six different species of woodpecker, all with red feathers somewhere on their body. It is signed in plate to the lower right corner and headed along the upper edge with the chapter title and page in German, Latin, and French. This piece is presented in an off-white mat and plastic sleeve.
