Japanese Fabric Dolls
Item Details
A collection of three Japanese fabric dolls. The tallest doll in this collection is dressed in a subdued but elaborate kimono, with four layers of alternating beige and red fabric visible at the open back edges of her long furisode sleeves. She holds a folded paper umbrella over her right shoulder, and her painted and sculpted face features a slightly open mouth with visible teeth. This collection also includes a smaller doll in a red kimono carrying a samurai helmet, depicting the character Yaegaki-Hime; and another in a kneeling position dressed as a Shinto shrine maiden. These pieces have no apparent maker’s marks.
Condition
- umbrella handle bent; Yaegaki-Hime leaning to one side on base; some fading and discoloration; some chips to bases.
