A semi-antique hand-knotted Khotan area rug. This wool rug features a lattice pattern of bird-like figures in a palette of sapphire, red, and black over a dramatically abrashed field, which phases from cornsilk to brown. The field is framed by compound borders, including two Kazak style leaf-and-flower meander patterned minor borders, a major border featuring a complex geometric pattern over sapphire, and a laleh abbasi minor border. Selvedges are overcast, while the rug’s top and bottom are finished with wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
