An original late 19th-century aquatint drypoint etching by well-known Cincinnati physician and artist Dr. A. Graeme Mitchell (1889-1941), titled Cologne.. The image depicts the 2,000-year-old German town of Cologne and the High Gothic architecture of the twin-spired Cologne Cathedral. This print is initialed in plate by the artist to the lower right. The print is presented without frame or matting.
Mitchell was a prominent physician in Cincinnati and even served as the Children’s Hospital director at one point in his career. Mitchell was also well-known and respected as a painter and etcher, and attempted to preserve the history of Cincinnati in his work. This etching was a part of a large collection that was stock for Cincinnati’s Closson’s Gallery.
