A.H. Payne Engraving "Blind Man's Buff"
Item Details
A circa 1893 etching titled Blind Man’s Buff, originally engraved by A.H. Payne after a work by D. Chodowiecky. The etching depicts a lawn party engaged in a game of blind man’s buff. The upper left border is marked ‘Museum in Berlin’. The lower left border is marked ‘D. Chodowiecky pinx!’ and the lower right border is marked ‘A.H. Payne sc.’ The etching is presented with a wide, white mat edged in gold, in a narrow gilded wood frame. The title of the print is attached to the frame backing, along with a typewritten note reading ‘Exhibited at the Chicago Columbian Exposition in 1893. From the Original portfolio of the late Eugene Field, purchased in 1923 from Eugene Field, Jr.’ A sawtooth hanger is affixed to the frame back.
