Antique Federal Period Cherry Secretary Desk, c. 1820

Item Details

An early 19th century American Federal period cherry secretary desk. This piece features exposed dovetail construction to the top with extensive sting inlay throughout. The slant-front desk has eight valenced cubbies, five drawers and a central cabinet above dual pull-out supports, flanking an desk drawer above three graduated full length drawers with Great Seal of the United States pressed oval plate pulls. The case features chamfered stiles with string and arrow inlay, a scalloped base and terminates in french feet. Includes poplar, maple and pine secondary woods.

Condition

- two cracks on the slant front; scratches and wear throughout; one cubbie drawer appears to have a repair around the knob; hand dovetail joinery, but nails are also used.
