The portrait depicts a man with a white beard and a red cap lighting a pipe, in profile view. The background is loosely depicted in neutral colors. The painting is signed by hand to the lower left by the artist. The painting is presented in a gold tone frame.

- to fair; wear to canvas along frame, scratches and nicks to frame, dent to inner front edge of frame at right, gaps in frame joints.
