Stewart Goldman Limited Edition Etching on Paper "world"

A limited edition etching on paper titled world by listed American artist Stewart Goldman (b. 1936), executed in 1997. Depicted is a skeletal apple form defined by intertwined vines and lively root systems springing from both the top and bottom of the apple. Heavy foul-biting to the encompasses the apple and creates a watercolor like appearance. Signed and dated to the lower right in graphite, titled to the lower center, and noted Trial Proof to the lower left. Embossed watermark to the lower right with the appearance of a wheel. Presented float mounted, behind glass, housed in a Closson’s gilt wood frame.

This particular print was made in collaboration with Cincinnati author Anna Ornstein for her essays on the holocaust titled Tales of Slavery and Deliverance exhibited at a gallery in Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati in 1997.
The illustration was later used for her book My Mother’s Eyes: Holocaust Memories of a Young Girl, 2004. Documents are included with the print describing the exhibit and the book.

Stewart Goldman was born Philadelphia, PA in 1936 and studied as the Philadelphia College of Art. He taught at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, 1968-2001, and has been the recipient numerous grants and awards allowing extensive European travel. Included with the print is a Cincinnati Art Museum exhibition catalog Stewart Goldman: Presence through Absence in February and May of 2009.
