Semi-Antique Hand-Knotted Caucasus Wool Area Rug

Item Details

A semi-antique handwoven wool Caucasus region area rug, having a split lozenge to the center bearing a single hexagonal anchor medallion. It has an unusual tone-on-tone lattice of polygonal forms with decroative scrolled elements. The lozenge is framed by a simple compound border of serrated leaves and floral elements, and the entire rug is rendered in a salmon, chocolate brown, pale blue and nutmeg palette on an ecru field. It is likely the rug had much bright colors in its early years. It has overcast edges with dense, soft wool warp fringe to each end. It is unlabeled.

Condition

- worn at the ends; very faded, but the colors are soft and still in warm tones.
