19th-Century French Mahogany Tea Caddy with Satinwood Inlay

Item Details

A 19th-century French tea caddy with divided interior compartment. The caddy appears with a fine mahogany veneer and inlaid satinwood design. The top of the lid is inlaid with the word ‘thé (tea),’ and a floral swag motif appears on the front side around the key hole. Perpendicular lines of inlay intersect at the corners of the box and line the edges of each side. The underside of the lid to the interior is satinwood veneer and the the divided compartment features two lift off lids lids with satinwood veneer and mahogany inlay.

Condition

- original hinges have been replaced; minor discoloration around the replaces hinges; two small bits of missing inlay in the word thé.
