19th-Century Painted German Porcelain Plaque with Gesso Frame

Late 19th-century hand painted porcelain portrait plaque with ornate Baroque style gilt and gesso frame. The portrait is after an original painting by German artist Georg Hom (1838-1911). Depicted is a lovely, fair skinned woman emerging from a dark background and shielding the light of her candle in the night time. With a smile on her face, she gazes towards to the viewer. To the verso, the plaque is signed ‘Gute Nacht’ (good night) and attributed to ‘nach G. Hom’ (after G. Hom). The plaque is housed in a magnificent gilt gesso frame in the Baroque style with a folding stand to the verso.
