Robbie Kemper Original Acrylic Modernist Combine Painting on Canvas "Paint Brush with Drips"
Item Details
An original acrylic Combine-style painting on canvas by Cincinnati artist Robbie Kemper (born 1957), titled Paint Brush with Drips, circa 2015. This Modernist work echoes the Combines of Abstract Expressionist bigwigs Jasper Johns and Rovert Ruaschenberg, as Kemper employs thick, urgent brushstrokes layered and intermingled with one another, dripping paint, and an actual wide-set natural bristle paintbrush with a wooden handle bolted to the canvas through its stretcher bars. The painting is signed to lower left, and is unframed with a hanging wire present to verso. Kemper studied art at the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning, and is currently a studio resident at the Pendleton Art Center in the historic district of Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati, Ohio.
