A Chippendale style secretary and Pyfe style chair. This mahogany Chippendale style secretary, also known as a ‘Governor Winthrop’ style, features a slanted top over four stacked serpentine front drawers, raised on cabriole legs with ball and claw feet. The slanted top opens to become a writing surface while revealing cubby and drawer storage arranged at the back around a small cabinet with shell carving. The drawers have gold tone bails on batwing plates and gold tone escutcheons on batwing plates. The maple Phyfe style chair bears floral carving to the crestrail, and stands on sabre legs; its seat is upholstered in a floral needlepoint design on a blue background.
