Capodimonte Napoleon and Josephine Armorial China
Item Details
A ten-piece collection of Capodimonte hand-painted porcelain cups and plates. The plates are marked to the undersides with ‘Napoleon a Josephine’, along with a cobalt blue crown and ‘N’ mark below, with a gold luster bee mark. The cups are marked only with the cobalt blue crown and ‘N’ mark. The collection includes four small plates, three six-inch saucers, and three matching teacups. The cups feature images of graceful dancers in relief around the sides, with highly ornate, hand-painted matte gold luster flourishes and diamond patterns around the inside tops of the cups. The handles of the cups are twisted into stylized branches, and are also intricately hand-painted in gold luster. The plates and saucers have scalloped rims painted in matte gold luster, and also have dancers in relief around the sides. The centers of the plates have hand-painted crests featuring facing gold lions holding a shield between them, with red and gold draperies above, topped with a gold and red crown, encircled by a thin gold lustre band.
