Hand-Knotted Bokhara Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Bokhara area rug. This rectilinear wool rug is rendered in a palette of red, black, terracotta, and ivory. It features a pattern of latticed Afghan elephant’s foot guls interspersed with Chemche bow and arrow guls over a red field. Framing the field are multiple wraparound borders over red including a soldier pattern, ram’s horns , starburst guls, and cruciform shapes. These are bookended at the rug’s top and bottom by narrow horizontal panels featuring partial guls seeded with diamond eyes. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with kilim skirts and knotted cotton warp fringe. It is labeled on the reverse.
