Gary Kelley Oil Painting on Canvas for the 128 Kentucky Oaks Race
Item Details
An oil painting on canvas by artist Gary Kelley (born 1945). The piece depicts a scene with women wearing vibrant dresses with hats, standing contiguous to a race horse ridden by a jockey, rendered against Churchill Downs in the background. The piece is signed by the artist to the lower left. Presented without glass, beneath a white mat, housed in a black gesso frame with gilt accents. There is a hanging wire affixed to the verso. This piece was used as the cover for the Kentucky Oaks program and featured on some of the tickets for the race.
Condition
- wear to the finish of frame; dents in finish on front of upper portion; minor tear to paper backing.
