A hand-knotted Iranian Isfahan area rug. This wool rug features a circular central medallion and a palette of cream, russet, tan, and aqua. The dark surrounding lozenge is decorated with floral arabesque linework and shah abbasi palmettes, and lancet leaves, with spandrels that mirror the exterior patterning of the medallion. The compound border features resolved corners and a herati pattern with more maroon added to the palette. An inscription is woven into one horizontal edge of the border. The rug is finished with overcast edges and knotted warp fringe.
