A collection of hand-colored prints of anthropomorphic animal caricatures after artwork by French listed French artist Jean Ignace Isidore Gerard ‘J.J.’ Grandville (1803-1847).These four pieces include a portrait of a dodo-like bird in a dress and feathered hat, subtitled Ne la trouvez-vous pas jolie?, a white cat in a gown and furs, J’eus le manchon!…., a toad with a jacket and walking stick, Le doyen des Crapauds, and a parrot in a suit and gloves, Un vieux, Perroquet. Each piece is titled beneath the image, signed in print by Grandville, matted under glass and presented in decorative frames with hanging hardware to their versos. Two prints have notations dating the prints ‘1847’ and noting ‘hand coloured by Neyle’ taped to their versos.

Condition

- fair; frames are worn with abrasions throughout; frames are flimsy; prints have toning and foxing; all pieces are dusty.
