Attributed to Sir Charles Lock Eastlake Watercolor on Paper "Christ Blessing Little Children"

Item Details

A watercolor painting and pencil drawing titled Christ Blessing Little Children attributed to famed British painter Sir Charles Lock Eastlake, PRA (1793-1865). The work appears unfinished on squared paper as a study for the infamous painting he would later create. Parents and children crown around Christ as he hold a child in his arms, offering his blessing to all the children. To the verso is a graphite inscription documenting one of the sales of the piece. A paper label is also present to the verso. Presented with a gilt mat, under glass, and housed in a gilt and gesso wood frame.

Sir Charles Eastlake was born in England in 1793. He is most well known for his portraits of female and upper class individuals and families. He was the President of the Royal Academy and the Director of the National Gallery until the time of his death.

EBTH certifies this item is from the private collection of personal property formerly owned by Dr. Robert H. Schuller.
