After Pietro da Cortona Acrylic Painting on Canvas "Venus as Huntress Appears to Aeneas"
Item Details
An acrylic painting on canvas titled Venus as Huntress Appears to Aeneas, after Italian painter and architect Pietro da Cortona (1596-1669). This piece presents a scene from Roman mythology in which Venus, surrounded by cherubim, disguises herself to guide her son, Aeneas, and his companion to Dido’s palace during the Trojan War. Dramatic, expressive poses and exaggerated light characterize this Baroque composition, originally painted in oil in 1631. The piece is presented unsigned, in an ornate gold tone wood and gesso frame with carved floriate details.
