Early 19th-Century Italian Wood and Mother of Pearl Marquetry Box

An early 19th-century Italian box with heavily carved mother of pearl marquetry top beveled lid. The script below the lid scene reads, ‘Adorazione dei pastori,’ or Adoration of the Shepherds. The tapered body features geometric patterns of mother of pearl and inlaid woods with a mother of pearl carved panel around the keyhole. The box sits on four ball feet and having a hinged lid. The interior of the box features a burled walnut veneer.

EBTH certifies this item is from the private collection of personal property formerly owned by Dr. Robert H. Schuller.

Condition

- hinges and hardware have been replaced; missing pieces of inlay around the lid (one triangular piece to the front and two to the back right); MOP inlay piece missing to the lower back right corner and to the center of the right side panel.
