Henry Van Wolf Bronze Sculpture "Lions"

A Henry Van Wolf (Germany 1898-1982) bronze skillfully depicting a male and female lion in a rampent embrace. The bronze is signed by the artist in the casting , dated 1970 and mounted on a veined slab of black marble.

Henry Van Wolf was born in Bavaria, Germany and attended the Munich Art School where he was referred to by his professors as The Little Albrecht Durer. Henry Left Germany in 1928, he was opposed to the political changes, immigrating to New York City with $1.00 in his pocket. Not finding the climate to his liking, the sculptor later moved to California where he founded the Valley Artist’s Guild. As a side note, Henry’s son Ferdinand founded the Royal Bronze Foundry of Bavaria which cast the Tyler Davidson Fountain in Cincinnati, Ohio.
