George James Frampton Bronze "Madonna" Sculpture

A bronze bust titled ‘Madonna’ by well known British artist, George James Frampton (1860 – 1928), a young woman with a wide band to her head and a flared collar in a dark bronze patina. The bust is presented on a stepped plinth which has incised ‘Madonna’ title to the front. The side has the artists cast signature of intertwined ‘GF’ and dated 1915.

George Frampton, possibly one of the most prominent English sculptors of his time, studied at the Lambeth School of Arts, The Royal Academy, and in Paris under Mercié. He was knighted in 1908 and from 1911-1912, was president of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.
