Ornate Hand-Knotted Indo-Perisan Wool Area Rug
Item Details
An ornate hand-knotted wool area rug, likely a contemporary piece made in India. It has a dense knot count and a detailed lattice pattern of large scale palmettes and racemes of ivory and taupe flowerheads with elongated leaf forms through the field. It has an allover color palette of mocha, taupe, ecru, shades of green and blue with madder reds and pale coral on a deep black field for high contrast. The guard borders echo the floral motifs with open flowerheads in madder red and shades of ecru with a stylized herati pattern in the field colors on an ivory field. It has overcast edges and dense, plaited cotton warp fringe at each end. Well made; appears to be unlabeled.
