Robert Broderson Original Oil on Paper "Six Figures - Rose, Black & White"

Item Details

An original oil painting on heavyweight rag paper by very well-listed American Abstract Expressionist, Robert Broderson (North Carolina/Connecticut; 1920 – 1992), titled Six Figures – Rose, Black & White. As the title suggests, the image depicts six stylized figures, consistent with Broderson’s oeuvre, four of them posing with one another in the foreground, as in a family portrait. Some of them smile while most have indifferent, blank faces, adding a compelling element of eeriness, further emphasized in the figures’ pale, washed out complexions and large, black eyes, as well as the bleak gray-scale of the composition. In the distance, two anonymous figures sit with their backs to the viewer. Artist signature is signed to the upper left and to the the verso, where the piece is titled. This piece is unframed, awaiting presentation of choice.
Broderson’s works are included in the collections of numerous reputed institutions across the nation, a few of which include the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; National Collection, Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC; Princeton University, New Jersey; Des Moines Art Center, Iowa; Harpur College, Binghampton, New York; North Carolina Museum of Art; and Duke University, North Carolina; among many more.
