Mika Wood Carving of Fiji and Offset Lithograph After Gaugin's "Vairumati"

A set of two 1980s pieces of art relating to South Pacific islands. Featured is an offset lithograph on paper after an 1897 oil painting by well listed French artist Paul Gauguin (1848-1903). The piece, titled Vairumati, depicts a young woman posing as the Tahitian goddess named in the title. To the left of the subject, a white bird holds a lizard in its talons, as other figures are shown seated in the background. The piece is signed, titled and dated in plate to the lower left. The work is presented without glass in a wooden frame. The frame includes an inscription written in pen to the verso that reads ‘From Gauguin Museum, Tahiti, 1985, Ron & Lila’. Also featured is a carved image on wood panel depicting an oceanside Fiji landscape. The work includes a decorative carved border, including an incised marking of ‘Fiji’ to the top right. The piece is signed ‘Mika, Fiji’ via an incised mark to the verso. It is additionally inscribed ‘Fiji Trip, 1985, Ron & Lila’ in pen to the verso. Each frame includes a sawtooth hanger affixed to the backing.

- to Fair; scratching and wear to finish of carving, especially to edges; writing to verso of each piece; surface scratching to print; areas of wear to print where image has worn away; surface scratches and staining to frame; minor wear to finish on carving; items would benefit from cleaning.
