An offset lithograph after an engraving by Henry Fletcher (fl. 1710–1750) of an original painting by Pieter Casteels III (1684–1749). This print reproduces June, one of Casteels’ series of paintings illustrating plants of each month. It depicts a riotous bouquet of June flowers in a jardiniere. These include iris, cornflowers, lilies, carnations, and roses. Beneath the picture is a thirty-four item list of plants, a cartouche with the word ‘June,’ and a strip that reads ’From the Collection of Rbt. Furber, Gardiner at Kensington, 1730. The print is signed in plate at the lower right. It is housed in a beveled wood frame with marbled gold-tone finish and protective acrylic glass. A sawtooth hook is included on the verso for hanging.
Condition
- there is minor edge wear to frame, slight toning to mat, some foxing.
