World War II Azad Hind Medal

A World War II Azad Hind medal featuring the original presentation box. These awards were instituted by the Azad Hind government for the Indian National Army during its campaign in Southeast Asia and were awarded from 1943 until 1961. Rudolf Souval of Vienna had the sole contract to produce the whole range of Azad Hind awards. The medal features a silver toned eight pointed star, with gold toned crossing swords behind a tiger’s head. The swords indicated valor in combat. The ribbon is green, red and white striped. The presentation box is marked, ‘Rudolf Souval Wein VII STR.D.JULIK’A’MPFER. 28’ and features the crossing swords and tiger’s head on the front. The medal is marked, ‘Rudolf Souval Wein VII’.
