A machine-made needlepoint area rug. This Aubusson-style rug is rendered in a palette of deep burgundy, shades of rose, off-white, and camel. It features a baroque floral design beginning with a bouquet of mixed flowers, buds, and foliage over an off-white medallion, which is enclosed in a frame consisting of scrolling acanthus, roses, and architectural motifs. The frame occupies most of a rose-colored field filled with abstract ribbons and swirls in shades of rose and pink with detail in pale blue. Enclosing the field is a wide primary border featuring scrolling acanthus over burgundy and four cartouches containing roses over off-white. The rug has a fabric backing and serged edges on all sides. It is unlabeled.
