An original harborscape painting in oil on board titled Ships at Rest by Cincinnati artist Reginald Grooms (1900-1989). The expressive painting is in a vibrant palette, illustrating the colorful bows of sailing vessels with blue water and blue sky. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower right corner and presented in a carved wood frame in a gold finish.
Reggie Grooms was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1900. He was interested in art from an early age and in 1923 he went to Paris to study painting at the Academie Julian in Paris. While in Paris he exhibited in the Spring Salons of both 1924 and 1925. In 1925, Reggie returned to Cincinnati to teach at the Cincinnati Art Academy and the University of Cincinnati School of Applied Arts where he influenced many talented artists for 46 years. Condition
The painting is in very good condition, the frame has minor nicks.
