A hand-knotted Kazak wool area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of deep midnight blue, ivory, olive, and cream. It begins with four concentric stepped medallions over a midnight blue field. The medallions contain fringed stars and pinwheels over red, blue, and ivory. Spandrels are red, with abstract designs in palette colors. Above each spandrel an elaborate pendant/lantern floats in the otherwise open blue field. The field is framed by eight borders. These include a complex geometric floret and cartouche pattern over cream, flanked by minor borders featuring meandering patterns over blue or ivory. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at either end with ivory wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
