A vintage pair of chromolithographs of wildlife species after the original watercolor illustrations by well-listed wildlife painter and naturalist Sherman Foote Denton (1856 – 1937). Denton provided the watercolor illustrations for some 100 chromolithographs documenting various species of North American fish and a few of other wildlife for the State of New York Fisheries, Game, and Forest Commission’s Annual Reports from 1895 to 1909. The prints included in this lot are titled American Lobster (Homarus Americanus) – Male Upper Side and American Lobster (Homarus Americanus) – Under Side of Eggbearing Female. Each print is signed in the plate to the lower corner and titled to the lower center. The prints are displayed under glass with a wooden frame and red mat with gold tone accents. A sawtooth hanger is attached to the verso of the frame for hanging.
