Eric Pape Original Mixed Media Figure Study on Paper
Item Details
An original 1931 waxy black crayon and charcoal drawing on thick paper by well-listed American artist Frederic L. Pape, who went more commonly by the name Eric Pape (1870 – 1938). The drawing depicts a stylized portrait of a man wearing a wig and a large billowing robe. He holds his hand to his chin and smiles pleasantly towards the viewer. The drawing is presented without matting or framing, awaiting your choice of presentation. It is signed and dated in black to the lower left, and seems to be titled in graphite to the lower right; the first word reads ‘Frank’ and the second word is illegible. Pape studied at the San Francisco School of Design and exhibited and was published extensively worldwide, gaining fame particularly for his renowned illustrations. Late in his career, he founded the Eric Pape School of Art in Boston.
