Hand-Knotted Caucasian Carpet Runner
Item Details
A hand-knotted Caucasian carpet runner. This wool rug is crisply rendered in a palette of red, pink, gray, olive, and black. It features a design of naturalistic florals and foliage in high contrast over a black field. Included are cabbage rose motifs, and depictions of carnations, lilies, and other exuberant blooms in red, pink, and yellow. The field is framed by three borders, including a primary border grounded in black and including a complex almond blossom and palmette pattern. Minor borders feature abstract meander patterns over crimson. The rug has very short pile and overcast selvedges, with protective fabric strips sewn along the underside. It finishes at each end with short, undyed warp fringe consisting of wool and, possibly, goat hair. Unlabeled.
