Semi-Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Shiraz Runner
Item Details
A semi-antique hand-knotted Persian runner. This rectilinear wool rug from southwestern Iran features an atypical Shiraz design in a palette of midnight blue, burgundy, madder red, and ivory. It begins with a small, hexagonal notched medallion with arrow pendants at top and bottom. Grounded in camel, the medallion rests on a midnight blue field, which features a herati pattern. Framing the field are compound unresolved borders including a primary border featuring a meandering arrow and stylized leaf pattern over ivory; the primary border is flanked by running water and meandering carnation minor borders. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at one end with a tan kilim skirt and an overcast edge at the other. Unlabeled.
