Chinese Polychrome Carved Wood Court Official Temple Figure

A Chinese late Qing dynasty (1644-1911) polychrome decorated, carved wood sculpture of a court official temple figure. Hand carved from a solid piece of wood and to the verso appears in the natural state. Remnants of polychrome decoration present throughout and traces of gesso adhere to the facial features. The official is depicted seated in a throne chair with his hands crossed. The figure stands freely.

Condition

- wood shows deterioration throughout; missing pieces and chips in the wood throughout; significant cracks and and marks throughout the figures; only traces of polychrome decoration remain.
