A 1945 oil painting on canvas board by Pennsylvania artist W. Schwinhart. The piece depicts a maritime landscape scene under yellow skies, with two capsizing ships shown to the center. The work is signed in red paint to the lower left and additionally signed and dated in graphite to the backing. It is presented without glass in a decorative wooden frame with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- horizontal stain with areas of paint loss to lower edge; small abrasions and scratches throughout canvas board; toning, staining and foxing to canvas board; foxing and staining to board verso, with possible moisture damage; surface wear and scratching to frame; loose joints to frame; exposed nails to frame backing.
