Original Early 20th-Century Post-Impressionist Oil Landscape on Canvas
Item Details
An early 20th-century Post-Impressionist oil painting on canvas by an anonymous artist. Executed with a compelling alla prima application of bright, clean pigments, the influence of Vincent Van Gogh can be seen throughout this countryside landscape. A man wearing a straw hat and blue coat drives a horse-pulled wagon in the foreground, making his way toward a quaint farmhouse in the near distance. Whimsical green woods enclose much of the terrain, leaving patches of fertile soil and pastoral grounds to the remainder of the space, blue mountains lining the horizon. This painting is mounted in a deeply beveled wood frame with a bronze tone finish, equipped to hang.
Condition
- accretion on painting surface and frame. Discoloration to pigments. Craquelure and a few abrasions across painting. Impressions from underlying stretcher bars are vaguely visible around edges of painting.
Dimensions
- painting measures 20″ × 16″.
