Vintage Hand-Knotted Sino-Kazak Area Rug
Item Details
A vintage hand-knotted Sino-Kazak area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of terracotta, slate blue, tan, and ivory. It begins with three polygonal medallions, two grounded in slate blue, one in ivory, all enclosing a symmetrical pattern including polygons of the same shape as the medallion as well as ram’s horns and star florets. The medallions rest on a terracotta-colored field, which is populated with symmetrically arranged pinwheels, flowers, tree forms, and other motifs. Framing the rug are eight borders, including a pair of primary borders, each featuring alternating oak leaves and palmettes, one grounded in ivory, the other in tan. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short kilim skirts and decoratively knotted ivory cotton warp fringe. The rug is unlabeled.
