Hand-Knotted Caucasian Lesghi Carpet Runner
Item Details
A hand-knotted Caucasian Lesghi carpet runner. This wool rug is rendered in a purposefully abrashed palette of rose, cornsilk, and indigo. It features eight vertically arranged Lesghi star medallions, each appended with four comb motifs, over a red field, the medallions alternating between indigo and cornsilk outer phases and cornsilk and rose. Bracketing the medallions are small square shields in cornsilk, each containing a cross at the center. The field is framed by six borders. These include a primary border containing a crab design over cornsilk, two reciprocal medahil minor borders in indigo and rose; and three barber pole thin borders. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short ivory wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
