Hand-Knotted Persian Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian area rug. This wool rug, possibly a Lavar Kerman, is finely hand-knotted in a palette of deep midnight blue, deep burgundy, and cerulean. Grounded in midnight blue, its field features an elongated herati kaleidoscopic design of densely patterned, precisely rendered sprays and chains of flowers amid palmettes, vines, and lancet leaves. Framing the field are eight box borders, including a primary herati border grounded in crimson. The primary border is flanked by six floral minor borders, while the outer guard border is midnight blue. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short kilim skirts and long ivory cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
