A circa 1830s hand-colored steel engraving on paper by artist John Charles Varrall (1794-1855), created after a painting by British artist William Tombleson (1795 -1846). The piece, titled Nuneham Courteney, Oxon Lord Harcourts, depicts a bucolic landscape scene in Oxfordshire, with a large estate shown bordering the Thames. The work originates from the 19th-century book titled Eighty Picturesque Views on the Thames and Medway, Engraved on Steel by the First Artists published by Black and Armstrong. The image features a decorative border that includes the artists’ names and work title printed in plate to the lower margin. The print is set under green and cream French matting and presented under glass in a decorative painted wooden frame with hanging wire to the verso.

- toning and foxing to print with age; minor surface wear and scratching to frame, especially to edges; small chip bottom right side of frame; small tears to frame’s backing paper.
