Hand-Knotted Baluch Tribal Runner

Item Details

A hand-knotted Baluch tribal runner. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of madder red, black, deep olive, and pumpkin. It begins with six and a half vertically arranged diamond medallions, each enclosing smaller, nested diamonds. Surrounding the center medallions are diagonal lattice rows of small diamonds in red and olive. The field is framed by compound borders, including strips in red, pumkin, olive, and black. The primary border, grounded in red, contains a running water pattern. The field ends at top and bottom with long kilim skirts featuring horizontal stripes in the colors of the palette. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short, clipped brown and tan warp fringe of goat/camel hair with wool. Unlabeled.
