An engraving of J..J. Audubon’s Oyster Catchers along the seaboard from ‘The Birds of America’ series, printed by Rob Havell. The image features two sea birds: a male ‘White legged oyster catcher’ and a female ‘Slender-billed oyster catcher’. The birds have vivid red and orange beaks, and are feeding on oysters hidden in the rocks. The piece is plate no. 86, which is noted in the upper left corner with roman numerals. The phrase ‘drawn from nature by J.J. Audubon F.R.S. F.L.S.’ appears at the bottom left cornerThe engraving is mounted in a thick mat covered in fabric, and is presented in a distressed, painted black and gold frame.
