Robert Conover Limited Edition Woodcut on Paper "Ascension"

A limited edition woodcut on paper titled Ascension by American artist Robert Conover (1920-1998), created in 1967. With a simple black and blue palette, this work features a large central jagged shape filled with diagonal planes of blue and black. An irregular black border is continuous around the perimeter. The work is dated and signed in graphite to the lower right, numbered 2 out of an edition of 15 to the lower center, and titled to the lower left. It is presented under glass in silver-tone wood frame.

Robert Conover was an Abstract Expressionist who received training at various institutions under Will Barnet, Morris Kantor, Max Beckmann and Louis Schanker. He is known for his paintings and prints that exhibit slashes of color and a simple vivid palette. His work has been exhibited and collected by numerous art institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, among others.
